Inversion Workshop: The Benefits of Being Upside Down

Come learn the basics of inversion poses with a systematic approach. In Inversions, the body is upside down, defying gravity. Inversions are a central focus in the Iyengar method. Inverted poses develop our yogic mind which is alert, neutral, innocent, non-reactive and observant. Sirsasana(Head balance) and Sarvangasana(Shoulder balance) are the two key inversions we will explore, but preparation with other inverted poses such as Adho Mukha Vrksasana(Full arm balance) and Pincha Mayurasana(Forearm balance) will be covered. BKS Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar developed props which assist us in building up mental and physical strength to perform the poses with awareness. We start with the basics so that weaker areas are strengthened and stiffer areas are released. There are numerous benefits to all the systems of the body in practicing inversions. Come experience a calm and fun approach to learning and explore the tools for moving your practice forward beginning right where you are.
All levels are welcome, but recommend knowledge of basic actions in the standing poses with at least 6 months experience of yoga practice.
