“The future depends on what you do today” — Gandhi

I am Camie Garvey, owner and instructor, and always a student. I am truly passionate about yoga. After many years of struggling with weight and lack of self-worth, I found a place, a home on my mat where at times I go to fall apart and other times I go to be put back together; a space of clarity, connection, and calmness.

I started yoga to lose weight. And as I started to lose weight, I found myself becoming physically, mentally, and spiritually stronger. I started to believe that I was good enough. My main reason for becoming a yoga instructor is because I want to inspire people to want to feel better about themselves. I was at an emotional and physical rock-bottom, angry, overweight, and disconnected. Today at this very moment, I have lost over 160 pounds in the past 10 years and have shed not just physical weight but also the weight of unhappiness.

I am a certified eRYT 500 teacher. I have studied with Chidanandi Sheri in Dallas Tx as well as Tias and Surya Little of Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe. I am certified in pre/post natal yoga through Linda Spackman in Santa Fe, Trauma informed Yoga and teach through a therapeutic approach. I attend several workshops and continuing education so that I can grow for myself but also for you. I am a simple human trying to navigate through this crazy thing we call life with good intentions, attunement & integrity.

I began taking yoga classes in 2013 during an emotionally tumultuous time in my life. I was also at my heaviest weight. I was seeking balance and change in my life and I found it on my yoga mat. I started by taking one Tuesday night class a week. Soon that turned to a Tuesday and a Monday night class. The more I practiced yoga the more I needed to practice yoga. It was not long until I was attending a class at least 6 days a week.

The more I introduced the physical practice of yoga the more I lived it off the mat as well. As balance was brought back into my life my weight decreased. Through yoga I continue to gain balance, strength, and flexibility in my life, and my joy being restored. After a year of wrestling with the call to teach I attended the Marianne Wells Yoga School in Costa Rica where I completed my 200 hour specializing in therapeutic yoga.

“The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.” — Rumi

I completed my 200 hour teacher training under owner Camie Garvey in May 2023. You will find me leading the Hatha style Beginner and Beyond classes that we offer at the studio. Possibly even serenade you during your Savasana with my guitar and mantras.

Yoga has played an immense role in reducing symptoms of my anxiety, which is why I took to it in the first place. Pairing breath with movement can make a difference in our nervous systems. Yoga has turned my world upside down, in the best way I could have ever imagined. It has helped me fall in love with the process of becoming the finest version of myself, on and off the mat. Because of this, I have a burning passion for teaching others the ancient practice so they too can experience community, self-awareness, and growth.

“Mobility Matters”

My background is geared around health, movement, and body language. Aside from a plethora of various yoga trainings, my formal education is in Health + Exercise Science, Herbs, and Sports Psychology. I also have Reiki master level, Healing Touch L2, and am a Health and Wellness coach. For the past 25 years, my teaching focus has been to bring comprehensive applications via the class choreography to unlock the potential within the human form. My understanding of movement, mobility, floor ashiatsu, FST, nutrition, breathwork, meditation, and weight lifting has guided my teaching style towards helping those with injuries address and prevent. My classes are unique in that they are built around the dynamic of the participants in class. I also never teach the same thing twice so your body and brain will always be learning. I find it really beautiful to watch and help students grow into their awareness of the practice within them. We each have our own expression and I feel so grateful to be a part of a students process. I aim to help each student grow, lengthen, strengthen, and embrace possibility in however that is best suited to their needs.

As a former athlete, my body went through a lot. After a very bad concussion, I had my first FST experience and I felt called to share its incredible benefits. I have sought ways to help the body adapt faster and smarter to avoid surgery and injury to the best of my ability. Combining visualization meditation, and brain specific nutrition, with FST’s gentle, oscillating, range of motion technique, I helped my brain and body recover.

FST was originally designed to help ease and prevent injuries in athletes. It is truly for everyone looking for a way to prepare and provide their bodies a way to function optimally. Unlike massage or other stretching techniques, FST starts at the joint capsule and focuses on planes of tissue, to improve mobility, elasticity, and functionality. It helps get the stuck stuff free! FST is a manual, table-based therapy, which has proved to be highly successful in the treatment of common neuro-myofascial imbalances, disorders, and dysfunctions. It is recognized for restoring and maintaining healthy bodies via the nervous system.

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” — Ancient wisdom

Learning and physical activity have always been a passion of mine.

I discovered yoga in my 20s and received my first certification from an instructor who taught yoga in her living room in the mid-90s.

In my 40s, I began teaching yoga full time, immersing myself in the healing arts after an accomplished career in the corporate world.

I am forever grateful to the yoga teachers on my path. — I earned my RYT-200 in Hot Vinyasa (2009) and my YogaWorks Professional Certification (RYT-500) at Prana Yoga Studio in La Jolla (2011). I also completed a 100-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Teacher Training at Infinite Yoga in San Diego (2014).

Fun fact: I discovered I was pregnant right after completing this 10-day intensive (the 100-hour) and continued teaching until four weeks before my baby was born.

A few years went by before I returned to teaching. Nonetheless, during my years as an instructor, I experienced many joys while witnessing my yoga students’ growth, with some becoming certified teachers.

My path has shifted and changed, always gravitating back to yoga. Through the years, I have continued to expand my knowledge and expertise. — In 2012, I also became a Certified Meditation teacher, and a Reiki Master Teacher in 2014. Most recently, I became an Advanced Crystal Master Practitioner and a Professional Akashic Records Consultant in 2023-2024.

My classes range from gentle to dynamic yoga, welcoming all levels of practice. I believe yoga can embody focus, strength, gentleness, dynamism, stillness, and fun. — Yoga has brought many gifts to my life, and I love sharing it with anyone interested in exploring this journey.

I invite you to attend my classes at Abilene Yoga House and experience the power of yoga for yourself.

If you are curious about alternative modalities, you can book a free consultation and an energy healing session directly on my website.

“Inner stillness is the key to outer strength.” — Jared Brock

An artist and Junior High Teacher by day and Yoga instructor on the weekends. I’m a recent graduate of AYH’s 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. I first learned about yoga while in college but kept an inconsistent practice for over a decade. I’m a highly empathetic and sensitive person and I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression as long as I can remember but yoga always seemed to ground me and help me to find a sense of peace. In 2022, during a particularly difficult season I knew it was time to make some changes. I decided to delve deeper into my yoga practice both on and off the mat.
My mission as a yoga instructor is to create a welcoming and safe environment for students of all levels to experience physical and personal growth. My desire is for my students to build outer strength and inner confidence through subtle asana. My joy is to encourage others to find a radical acceptance of their humanity and intrinsic value.

"Yoga is a way of moving into stillness in order to experience the truth of who you are." — Erich Schiffmann

Yoga has always been a part of my life. I remember watching my mom practice and learning from her. I didn’t understand the impact it would have on me until many years later. I have been teaching yoga for 16 years, but it wasn’t until the last 4 that I truly felt it’s value. As I deconstructed my belief system I lost a guiding foundation and found the practice of yoga the place I was able to deeply connect to my heart, my values, and my capacity to love for the first time. As I spent more time in my body and in my emotions I saw the power of breath and of stillness. I was able to fully quiet my mind for the first time in my life. It was through this daily practice I found my inner knowing and began to trust myself and my desires for my life. I am honored to work with this community to hold space for those on this journey as well! I am thankful for Camie and each of the instructors who are little moments of light and love in a difficult world!

Practicing Yoga has had a profoundly healing impact on my life and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my practice with others.

I have been a dancer all my life and for several years I have taught group fitness classes, including Barre, mat Pilates, cycle, and HIIT classes. My initial draw to yoga was simply for the stretching and strengthening benefits of an asana practice. However, when I began to deepen my practice, I found that I was becoming more patient, more open, more comfortable being present with myself and my emotions.

I have been a certified group fitness instructor since 2016 via AFFA, and in early 2022 I completed my 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training with the School Yoga Institute. My Yoga teacher training emphasized teaching from a trauma informed perspective, and I strive to create a safe space for embodiment in both Yoga and fitness classes. I am also an Occupational Therapist, and I work with folks recovering from various diagnoses in an inpatient rehab hospital. I truly believe that movement is medicine!

I strive to embody the principles of Yoga both on and off the mat, to hold compassionate and loving space for others, and to constantly grow in my knowledge and understanding. It is truly an honor for me to nurture others on their journey and to help each person to step into their power.

Every day is a good day for yoga

Abilene Yoga House has been my personal practice home for many years. I also graduated from AYH’s yoga teacher training. I was drawn to yoga after starting a full time engineering desk job, which caused low back and shoulder/neck pain. My yoga practice has helped me connect with my physical and mental self.

I love having fun in my yoga classes, and I attempt to weave playfulness into my teaching. I hope students in my classes learn that yoga can help them explore their own strength without taking the practice too seriously.

Integrity cannot be lost or stolen. It is your choice to give it away. Value, Guard and Cherish something that once given away, you can't get it back. — my amazing husband Ret. Colonel Mike Campbell

Hi, I am Michelle Campbell. I’m US Army veteran and married a soldier who served 32 years. Hence, we became a military family and moved around a lot.  I needed a career that could come with me, and one that worked easily with 3 children. I taught my first aerobics class in high school at Spa Lady in 1986. I thought why not go back to teaching fitness. In 1993 after the birth of my first child I got a job at our local gym teaching an assortment of fitness classes ranging from indoor cycling, step aerobics, yoga ball, yoga, mat Pilates and the list goes on!

Due to bi-lateral knee and back injuries/surgeries, yoga was a way to supplement my physical therapy so I could get back to running, cycling, and teaching fitness. Initially I focused on the physical aspect, I quickly realized there is much more to this yoga stuff. In 2018 I took the leap and received my formal 200 HR Yoga Teacher certification. Wow is all I can say. Immersing myself in the philosophy and practice of yoga is one of my passions that has molded me into a never ending student to the holistic practice that is yoga.

As time goes on and as I grow older, I know there is always a place for yoga.  I have learned more about grace with myself and others.  The true epitome of the mind, body, and soul connection can be found in this time honored practice. I love to teach and to be able to share this practice with others so…let’s roll out our mats and discover together.

John Kaczmarek

I've been practicing yoga since 2011. A friend invited me to a class after I told them about neck and shoulder pain from my work as a software developer. I had no idea what to expect, but after about an hour of sweating from every pore in my body I felt amazing. It was like my body had released every toxin that had been somehow slowly seizing up all my joints. I was hooked but spent the next several years having to relearn why it was so important to maintain a consistent practice. My personal practice began to progress from being just about pain management to a more holistic mindset. I began to incorporate and focus on breathwork and meditation. In 2019 I decided the best way to deepen my practice was to grow in my knowledge and begin to teach.

After a 200 hour YTT I started teaching at Abilene Yoga House. My teaching style is an amalgamation of all the wonderful teachers that I've been blessed to practice with. I still have a love for powerful (often heated) vinyasa flows, but have come to thoroughly appreciate the deep work on the subtle body accessed in the slower practice of Yin. I'm just an average yogi who's grateful to share my experience with my fellow travelers. If I'm lucky enough to have you join a class, I look forward to learning to grow our practice together and hopefully encouraging one another to be truer versions of ourselves.

Yoga is a beautiful gift that allows us to strengthen our bodies, calm our minds, and find community. As a mental health professional, I’ve worked with individuals of all ages on paths toward healing. I completed my 200-hour yoga certification, and additional certifications in Pranayama and Meditation Fundamentals, at Soul Strong Yoga in Round Rock, TX. I love utilizing my background as a musician and music therapist to mindfully select music and sound to facilitate energy in the body and breath. I believe yoga is for everybody, so my classes are inclusive and focus on presence in your body and grace for yourself. Whether you want to relax or energize, I encourage opportunities to personalize your flow and make the practice your own!
